Somewhat unexpected symbolism on this old church we found…or perhaps it’s only the fact that I’ve never seen it on a church before ?

The five pinot star is actually a symbol for goddess worshiping and is also a “route map” over how the planet Venus moves in the sky over five years. If the symbol itself would indicate Satanism, it would be turned the other way around – with two points up and only one down. But otherwise you are quite right; this symbol is frequently used by a number of new wave religions as a holy symbol which, to some people, is interpreted as occult.
I myself live in Sweden, and my believe is that this church was build under the time when we were adjusting from our old religions into Christianity… A lot of old symbols were used in new Christian buildings to ease the translation between the old and the new. Do you know when the church was build?
Thank you very much for the information! – I looked it up now and apparently, although it’s in the style of the Gothic Revival, the church itself isn’t as old as I thought; it was built in 1879.
Amazing design. Churches make for some great photography pictures.
Okay, so I was almoast right :p The style was right and the year wrong… And I forgot to compliment you on you pictures last time, they are truly great! (Specially the second one.)
