Varnhem
Varnhem is the location of the oldest known stone church in Sweden outside of my native Scania, erected in the 1040s at the latest. It is also the location of a Christian cemetary which was in use during the end of the ninth century.
The Cistercian Order established Varnhem Abbey around 1150, not far from the old church. A new abbey church was erected to replace the older church; the abbey church is still in use.
Varnhema and in particular its abbey has received additional attention in recent years due to it being the main location of The Knight Templar trilogy written by Jan Guillou, and subsequently filmed. Arn Magnusson, the hero character of the series is portrayed as living there.
Birger jarl and his family lie buried in Varnhem.

As it happens, my best friend lives very close to this church.

Needlebinding
A technique that predates knitting – using only one needle ; it’s very useful for making things that need to be durable like socks and mittens. An advantage over knitting is that a dropped stitch will not run.
here are a few examples made by my wife:

Another favourite from the Garden exhibition, cartoon-style animal trophies (a great replacement for the *real* thing )-
I cannot for my life remember who made them though…

Shooting Cats: Sweet Plommon
Now called “Mira”. It was but one and a half year ago that I started shooting cats (and thus picked up photography in general). my wife needed photos for her website (she has a cattery together with my daughter).. althought I had a digital SLR camera - I hadn’t used it that much – I struggled a lot in the beginning, but I got some valuable experience in the progress.
Here are a couple of photos ; 2 old ones and one from a couple of days ago.
